Prologue 02:47
2.
Static tress anchored out front Like twisted hands reaching to God Bedsheets draped over your mirrors Blanketing what you are not Followed you into the hallway Decorated with your scars Don’t feel bad, this pain is fleeting Like a kiss felt in a dream You’ve tried to disguise it Are we hardwired to be cruel? No future, past or present Can keep me away from you Atop this building hollowed out The silent child, so filled with doubt
3.
Rooftops 02:30
You were livin’ on rooftops Looking down on the trees You seem too young but you’re older than me Slowly losing your sanity Fractured wills, broken glass on the floor Laced windowsills Can’t hide your pains behind the window frames It’s a silent kill Vacuums of dust turn the city gray Whistling wind to dry your eyes Echoing in the canyon of the day As shadows expand under bishop pine Willowisps from your cigarette lips Linger in the air Instantly sickening But so familiar Avoiding people on the wayside Like we’re the ones with a disease You’re crazy though you said That you’re not afraid of death That’s a secret that we’ll keep You spent 800 years Hiding all the fears But don’t feel bad, At least, there’s a friend that you have
4.
Needles 04:54
I think I killed you in one of my dreams But what the hell does that even mean Your needles pricked at my skin Nobody loses and nobody wins We spent our eighteenth summer in bed Strips of light seeping in as we bled We’re back to the start We’re back to the start I think we agree, we’re tired of this routine We’re at arms length but I don’t wanna live this way I called your bluff but I know that it’s not enough We cannot unwind though I know that it’s in our minds It’s so strange I regret to inform I won’t accept this if this is the norm Not sure if this means harm Not sure if this is part of the charm There’s no pride in a fight with no prize Our knees were scraped, enemies on both sides I’m sorry for thinking these things Nothing more than false feelings The slow, slow sip of your IV drip Is killing your veins, I know we are not the same But once again, we continue to pretend That we are both right yet totally ignorant
5.
I remember you, the sullen child, kicking rocks Out on the frozen street Your hands were white like chalk The moon washes the city in black and blue Painting the concrete giants Leaving you, the fool Among stocked shelves and used DVDs We spelled out our names With cut out magazines These old cassettes All warped and cracked Are nothing more than memories We had found many other distractions on our list Though we found it hard To come close to the finish Now all I have left are these faded old photos That can’t really say that much to me You wound the key to start the day in slow motion Insomniacs dreaming of your devotion Cannot erase the smell and taste from your memory So now you’re on the street As it begins to freeze And though you’re laughing well, we still don’t know that much But this grave uncertainty Is certainly a must I see you throwing stones With your restless bones You know you can’t postpone Your breath is spinning smoke as you cough in frigid air Morose and moving quietly Reciting silent prayers And as that street you cross, I’ll ask you one last thing Are you destiny’s dog?
6.
Trip 04:58
Crescents under your eyes Quick pat on the cheek To hide the flaws from your lack of sleep Screeching tires Ignite the night You’ve been outdone You’ve been outdone Eyes heavy, it’s a travesty Arms feel weak You can barely speak Now the background is just a blur Was it worth it? Was it worth being first? Neon eyes dimmed out on the street Two souls ready to meet Screeching tires out on black ice Sidewalk spotlights Ignite the night
7.
Amaranth 10:16
Amaranth Your slender hands floated up Your eyes following me Amaranth We cut you out from the pipe Trapped in a turquoise sea Amaranth You took the fall due to their words Restless waves pound the shore Amaranth Your mother said not enough Is this all we do?
8.
Pass em by like road signs You had me cold and runnin blind Cannot look so you read The subtle crime that makes you bleed Climb the stairs to ring the bell I don't think your eating well Long vacation, realization Cabin fever, veiled flirtation You can't even see, that you are slowly killing me Though we played out in the field This place still makes me feel We crossed this road a while ago Only means we're getting old So much for this lame connection Please I want your affection Too naive to deceive Cast the line, help me breathe You can't even see, that you are slowly killing me

about

In Orbit of the Ruthless was recorded at the house of Chris Fleckner and Larkin Casey in three separate sessions: March 23, March 30 and April 15.

"In Orbit of the Ruthless was originally conceived as a "concept album" or a song cycle with an attempt to unify the songs by a single theme. I was kinda wary about it because I was afraid it might end up being too bloated or having too much concept and not enough actual songs. Half way through the writing process, some of the concept fizzled out but a majority of the original concept still made it onto the album."

"To prepare myself for the writing process, I gathered many field recordings while I was out in San Jose, capturing buses hissing as they pulled up at a curb, people chattering in the library and cars whizzing past on busy streets. That's why lots of the songs have images having to do with cityscapes and architecture like buildings, streets, cars, etc."

about

Social Stereo Fremont

Whether out of boredom or necessity, Gabriel Tiburcio had always been interested in creating things. As a little boy, he'd often draw comics with friends during lunch. It's no surprise that he would form a band with several high school friends. Hailing from the San Francisco Bay Area, Social Stereo likes loud guitar music. But they like ambient things too. Haunted House Art-Punk? Who knows... ... more
